JenaWirtschaft signs "Diversity Charter"

29.01.2020

Economic development emphasizes the importance of diversity for Jena as a business location

The Jena Economic Development Agency has signed the "Diversity Charter" employer initiative. This initiative aims to promote the diversity of employees in companies and institutions. JenaWirtschaft supports the goals of the charter in order to make Jena a diverse, cosmopolitan and mutually tolerant location.

Our aim is to develop the city in a shared, respectful coexistence in such a way that all people continue to feel comfortable and welcome here,

explains Managing Director Wilfried Röpke, explaining the motivation behind signing the charter.

Gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion and ideology, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity should not play a role.

Diversity as an opportunity

The JenaWirtschaft team sees the diversity of the people who live in Jena as an asset and success factor for the city with all its facets. Companies benefit in particular from a diverse workforce.

When employees from different countries or other backgrounds work together, this enables greater flexibility in times of rapidly changing requirements in the world of work,

says Röpke.

Network

The signing of the charter is accompanied by a voluntary commitment on the part of the signatories to promote diversity and appreciation in the world of work. Over 3,400 companies and institutions with a total of 13.3 million employees have already signed the Diversity Charter. In addition to the Economic Development Agency, ten other partners from Jena have already signed up, including Beutenberg Campus e. V., Kindersprachbrücke e. V., Friedrich Schiller University Jena and various digital companies.

Projects 2020

JenaWirtschaft is committed to real equality of opportunity locally and firmly rejects any hatred of and exclusion of individual social groups. This year, the team led by Managing Director Wilfried Röpke is organizing a corporate event for the Inclusion Festival in May, opening a Welcome Center over the course of the year and offering various training events on the topic of diversity.
